HomeGoodies

Yesterday I got a chance between grocery shopping and the gym to stop by HomeGoods to see if they had any goodies. In the last few months I haven't been too impressed but yesterday was different! Way to go HomeGoods! Check out these great finds that didn't make it home with me but were worthy of a photo shoot. Sorry in advance for the crummy IPhone pictures.

I loves this side table. The industrial with the weathered wood reminds me of something you would find at Restoration Hardware.

Cute burlap pillow with the definition of dream on it would be so cute in a nursery. Even better it was backed with chocolate velvet!

They had a great pillow selection with lots of coffee sack pillows and neat insect pillows. My favorite were the neat suzani pillows that are popping up everywhere right now. The only difference is they are a ton more expensive than this pair for 20 bucks each!

I had to take a picture of this pair. I always am drawn to the blue and white vases, chacets and pots. They were only 15.oo each. I can see them flanking a buffet.

I often see these cute artichoke lamps in HouseBeautiful and other decorating mags. They are always really expensive too. I think this is a pretty good knock off minus the shade. I can see it with a burlap shade and a brass shade topper in my living room!

This guy was neat as well. I love any lamp with a blown glass base, but this one you can display objects in! I imagined it full of pine cones in the fall.

Everyone be safe tonight and don't forget to have too much fun!

Happy New Year!

The Campaign is done!

I am super excited to show you the pictures of my completed campaign dresser! I have always wanted a piece of campaign furniture and now I have one of my very own. I love the sleek midcentury modern feel with an elegant, yet masculine brass hardware. As silly as it sounds,if I were a piece of furniture I would be a campaign piece...LOL!

(Before)

Above is a before picture of the dresser. Similar color but look at how tarnished the hardware was. I used my tried and true friend....

This stuff is amazing for ANYTHING tarnished. It is really gentle and brings out the original luster. Even better it will only put you back a few bucks at your local grocery.

I also painted the wall behind the dresser to make the dresser pop in my entryway. It also makes my entry way feel like its own room! The brown is Benjamin Moor's-Bittersweet Chocolate. It is one of the winter colors for Pottery Barn.

Now the next thing I have on my list of "To-do's" is to figure out what cute objects I can find to put on top :)

If you have any suggestions on accessories for the dresser, I would love to hear them!

Kitchen Face Lift

Hello All! Hope you had a great Christmas, we did! With my dad in town, we has have been busy with house projects. We got around to painting the kitchen...wooohoooo! I posted before and after pictures below. The tan is before and the green is after.

I have been wanting to change up my kitchen a bit especially after seeing this inspiring picture!!

I love the warmth of the wall paint with the different wood grains. I especially love the chandelier. The next step in my kitchen is to change the chandelier. I found one really similar to the inspiration pic above and a few other that I also am crushing on. Here is where you come in. I would love your help in deciding which one to go with. The below three are the contesters.

Green With Envy

My wonderful dad is coming for two weeks during the Holidays! I am so excited. Every time my dad comes he likes to be put to work. I guess its a "Dad" thing, but he likes to feel like he is helping me like I'm some kind of damsel in distress. So before he comes I get to thinking about projects that I've wanted to accomplish. This trip we will be painting the kitchen. I am really excited because I feel like my kitchen is stuck in this country/shabby chic rut! I really don't like either. I would like to modernize(if that is a word). Paint is always a good and CHEAP place to start. Here is a picture of what my kitchen looks like now.....

I wanted to paint the cabinets but my husband laid down the law and said no. I guess he is right. They are new and in great condition. I really wanted to paint them a shade of green like Pure Style Home, a great blog if you haven't checked it out. Picture below...

If I can't paint the cabinets green I am going to paint the walls green. I decided to go with...

I'm thinking of adding new hardware as well to give it a more modern feel. I like these steel rod pulls. They are 7.99 for a two pack!
If any of you have any kitchen ideas for me I would love to hear them!

I love old books! I mean really old. I like to go down the isles of vintage book stores with a cup of coffee in hand looking for the most weathered spine. I love the smell of the musty pages and even more the cracking sound the book makes when I open it! I think you get the point. Anyway, every once in awhile I will find one of these books that are not just fun to admire and decorate with, but also have good substance. Today was one of those days! I ran across a book published in 1943 titled, A Book about a Thousand Things. Page after page are interesting topics about the most random happenings. For instance...
What birds perch lengthwise on limbs?
How did "bungalow" originate?
How did the phrase "In the Limelight" originate?
How did "corduroy" originate
How many front toes does a parrot have?
I thought I would share the answer to one of the questions that I thought to be pretty cute.
Question: What is the rule of thumb? How did the saying originate?
Answer: Originally by "rule of thumb" literally meant measuring with the thumb. Centuries ago clothiers and carpenters regarded a thumb length to be equal to one inch. By extension "rule of thumb" is used today figuratively for any simple experience rather than scientific knowledge or exact formula. The thumb stopped being used for measurement in the seventeenth century when the ruler was invented.
A Book about a Thousand Things, George Stimpson
So to all my friends, my "rule of thumb".... Never judge a book by its cover.

Guest Nest

During the Holiday's Matt and I always have a ton of family and friends that come for a visit. We love having guests! This time of year always makes me think about the guest room. Is it suitable for our loved one's? Is the bed comfortable or more importantly warm enough? Is it calming? I want our guests to feel like they are at a cozy bed and breakfast! Here are a few pics of our guest bedroom. Let me know if you see something we need to add to the "Guest Nest?" And then some inspiring guest bedrooms pictures that make me want to be a live in guest.
