A New Mirror & GoodWill Goodies

I have been wanting an art deco sunburst mirror that I feel would complete my living room. And then I think, who am I kidding, I never feel like a room is completed! Anyhew, I found one with great lines that was unique compared to the mass market ones out there. I purchased it from Ballard Designs. You can see the one I picked up and others like it here.

The box was sitting on my doorstep when I got home. I couldn't open it fast enough.
Hi!

This is where it is going to live. What do you think? I have a project for my mantel, but I'll get into that later.

Just when I thought the day couldn't get better, I stopped in GoodWill looking for nothing in particular. As I turned the corner they caught my eye... Tons of designer fabrics from Robert Allen and Beacon Hill! A designer fabric store must have gone out of business and dropped off their inventory at GoodWill.

Most of them had their original price per yard raging from 50-170 bucks, Yikes!
I brought home this Robert Allen modern graphic print for 2.99! I have just the project for the fabric and will show you when I'm done.

Happy Hunting

Happy Birthday

Sometimes I wonder what I did to be blessed with such an amazing man? Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be "that" woman who makes it seem like her marriage is perfect, but when times are tough I know I picked a man that won't ever stray. When times are great, I know I picked a man who always seems to make them greater, and when I need a friend, I know he shows up with my favorite glass of wine, making me feel like I am the only thing that matters. So today on His birthday, I want him to feel like he is the most important. Happy Birthday Matt Matias. You are loved.

Gold

I have always been a fan of gold and I'm so excited that it is back in style. I have been going back and forth trying to decide if I should buy this gold flatware? I love it, but I have a set of ordinary flatware that works just fine. Can you hear me pouting through your computer?

All of these items are found on HSN. Great style doesn't need to cost a fortune.
So, do you think I should buy the gorgeous flatware?

Heather

Spring Cleaning

Even though it is snowing today in Portland, I have been in the mood for some Spring Cleaning. I ran across a really great site that has lots of tips for staying up on the "To-do's." It also provides free print-outs that make staying organized a bit easier. I like this one....
It is simple but does the job.
This one would be great for a busy family.

There is also a weekly menu planning sheet that I promised myself I would start using to cut down on trips to the grocery and money!

Small Space Big Style

You defiantly don't have to sacrifice style in a small space. These pictures prove that. I love the layering that small spaces almost require, and the idea of having all your favorite things living so close together.

Bone Inlay

What do you guys think about Bone Inlay Pieces? I think it must be my eclectic side coming out in me, but I have always been drawn to them. They make such a statement and don't forget about how many hours it takes to inlay the camel bone by hand!

I've had a big OHHHH moment. I never used to be one to wear alot of jewelry. Wedding rings, and my tiffany etoile band. That's it. Sometimes a watch. I didn't think I needed to wear anything else..... until I met Stella & Dot! I kid you not.. these pieces have changed my wardrobe! My staples of white boatneck tees, jeans and flats, or leggings and boots are no longer boring basics! Brilliant. Here's a look at my daily look.. looking differently-

Crazy how easy it is to brighten basics or change your entire look with just one piece of jewelry isn't it?! I'm so glad I'm now in the know..

Pillow Talk

I ran across an article in House Beautiful about pillow arranging. I thought it was helpful due to the fact that there are so many great pillows out there, but I find myself leaving them at the store not knowing how to incorporate them into the other pillows I already have. The article really gave me some good pillow pointers that I thought I would share with you.

Texture
Monochromatic scheme can give off a very sophisticated feel, but when all the shades are similar it is important to keep it visually interesting by mixing textures.
Put together a Pairing
To keep a look clean and traditional work in pairs, with pattered pillows in front and solids in the backdrop.
Add Different Shapes
The contrast between organic and graphic shapes are a beautiful contrast. Like the Yin and Yang of pillows. Having more than one shape adds character to a room.

Build a Collection

A wild mix can bring a great eclectic feel to a home. It will only work when there is a balance; pairs and colors of equal intensity *****************************

Here are some photos of rooms that fallowed the "Pillow Rules."

Hope you found these tips as helpful as I did. Now go out and find yourself another beautiful addition to lay your head on.

Heather
