Oh Ship!

Look at what I found for Collin's room!  What little boy wouldn't want a cool ship like this in his room?! It goes perfectly with what I'm scheming for his room.  No, not a nautical theme.  More of an eclectic mix of modern with some vintage pieces.

GoodWill Price tag: $30 + 1/2 off day = $15!

Weekend DIY

It has been quite awhile since I have gotten the time to get knee deep in a project, but I made some time this weekend.  I picked up this dresser at Goodwill and gave it a face lift. It's amazing what a little elbow grease and paint will do!  I'm not keeping it.  I am selling it to make some extra cash.  I will get more into that later this week.  Until it finds a home it is sitting pretty in the guest room.

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend!

A New Additon

I wanted to show you my newest accessory for the casa.  I purchased this horse shelf from Rene's Etsy shop. When I saw it, I fell in love.  I love the rustic wood element and how it seems to compliment the abstract art. I put a vase I already owned from West Elm on top, but think the scale is off.  I might have to get one a bit larger.  What do you think about the vase, too small?

If you are looking for a one of a kind find, make sure to check out Rene's Etsy shop

Vintage Suitcase

This past weekend I was browsing through one of my favorites antique stores and saw these vintage suitcases.  I thought they were cute stacked upon each other.  I didn't buy them, just admired, but here are some photos that get your design minds turning.  Sometimes the objects we walk right by have so much potential.

My Peacock's Arrived

I promised here I would reveal my little peacock's when they arrived.  They landed on my door step this weekend. I purchased them off etsy.  I love how stately they look on my dining table.  The brass plays off the wood nicely.  I can't wait to have my orange runner on the table with these little guys for Thanksgiving.

Peacock's

Peacock's are beautiful, bold, classy, colorful and stately.  All the characteristics you want in your decor right?  So why wouldn't you add a little peacock to your space?

I recently purchased a peacock inspired piece for my casa.  I will share as soon as it hits my door step.

No Ordinary Lamp Shade

I ran across an image from interior designer, Mary McDonald and immediately found interest in the Asian lamp with the rattan lamp shade.  I love the texture it gives.  You don't see a lamp shade like this everyday....well, I do!!!

This reminded me that I have never shared with you guys my laundry room light fixture DIY.  I found this really cool antique rattan lamp shade at one of my favorite antique stores for 7 bucks.  I then purchased a light kit at Home Depot, "My home away from home" and viola!  The house came with one of those industrial fluorescent light fixtures that made me feel like I was in jail while folding laundry.  I like the new one much better.

And look how cool it looks turned on!

* light kit - 10 bucks
*lamp shade - 7 bucks

That is how I like my DIY's, cheap & easy!

Happy Monday!

My Stools Twin & Fun Guest Post

via

When I ran across the above photo, I noticed the woven stool.  Why, because I have it!!  Mine is from GoodWill with a price tag of 6.99.  Totally different looks, but the same stool for sure.  Really makes me think where mine is from?

Today I am over at Roco Rennie being featured in Rachael's fun series, "It's all in the details."  A fun series showing off your five favorite items in your home.  Go check out my favorite's here.  Thank you so much Rachael for including me in your series!

Busy & Found Objects

What a crazy week it has been! Some really exciting happenings for our family, 3 Stella & Dot trunk shows, my Dad is in town for the 4th and oh, can't forget about my day job! I do however have two great finds to share with you today. One is this amazing chinoiserie glass lamp I picked up at Goodwill for 7 bucks! I saw it across the isle and instantly fell in love. I am going to fit it with the perfect black linen drum shade...sigh.
Second item of business was given to me by a friend who is moving. They had a great Mid-century house and this side table reflects it.

Of course I already fitted it with some of my favorite objects. I love the detailing of the curved ends with the cool arch detail. I thought about painting it, but I love the rustic warmth it gives off.
I hope you all have a wonderful 4th! Our neighborhood has a big block party and we roll our bbq's out to the front lawn and share the goods! This year my home alone is hosting 15 peeps. It should be a blast!

Whatever you find your self doing on the forth, make some fireworks.

They Arrived!

My Etsy Heron's arrived this past week. Landing right on my mantel, their new home.  Love the black onyx against the brass. I can't stop smiling at them when I walk in the room.
Hope you all had a great Memorial weekend!

Need vs.Want

NEED

NEED these Mid Century Heron's because I have nothing on my mantel and wanted to add a bit of glamor to the room.  I thought the combo of brass and black onyx would be just the thing. It kind of reminded me of an accessory you would see in Lonny Mag.  Trust me, it wasn't like needing toilet paper, this buy I'm still super excited about, hehee.

Want

I also wanted to pick up this great brass clock with amazing sun burst like detail. Problem is, I don't NEED it. Boooooo!! If any of you think you NEED it and decide to pick it up here, please post pictures!

Happy Friday,

Another Find

I know, I'm obsessed with campaign furniture. But I just can't get enough. This was not a planned purchase. I saw it on Craigslist for 40 bucks and couldn't pass it up. The wood is in really good shape but I am still thinking of painting it this color...

Domino Mag

A really rich cobalt blue in high gloss. After bringing the hardware back to life, I can see a white porcelain lamp and an over sized fern sitting on top. Can you see it?

Have you found any good finds lately?

A Little of This & A Little of That

Hope you all had a great weekend! I have been MIA for a few days because I had a list of to-do's.  But I'm back and wanted to share a bit of random happenings in the Matias household from this past weekend.

1. I wanted to share with you a great GoodWill find.

I only paid 2 bucks for this cafe chair! Over at Crate&Barrel, it's twin is going for a whole lot more. I love the caining seat and the high gloss black paint.  Its new home is in our guest bathroom with white towels stacked on top.

2.  Our English Bulldog, Nixon desperately needed a bath! This is not an easy task. She is 70 lbs of dead weight!

This is her after her bath. Just look how excited she looks, haaahha.

3. Last but not least, my most exciting part of the weekend was....drum roll please! We got a new dining table! Of course I found it on Craigslist for a steal.  The lady didn't know she was getting rid of an antique. Oh well for her, it's mine now (can you hear my deviant laugh?)
I have been revamping our kitchen for awhile now, starting with painting it a few months back. I am also adding a gallery wall that isn't quite done yet.  Here are two sneak peak pics on the kitchen transformation.

Have a great week everyone!

Love it or Hate it?

I love it! I went GoodWillin' with my friend this weekend and the GoodWill Gods were with us! We both left with a cart full! I didn't buy this lamp because I don't need any more lamps. A fact about myself is that I am obsessed with bowls and lamps. I have way too many of both! So sadly I left this guy behind. I wanted to share it with you though because I thought it was unique. I like the hand blown sea glass with a green tint and the weaving that was used. Then to top it off, there is a strap of old leather at the top, can you see it? With a white linen shade I though it would look chic.  What do y'all think of it.... Love it or Hate it?
By the way, my best friend hated it.  We work because we are opposites and can laugh "at" each other and "with" each other.  She was definitely laughing "at" me here...

Me Time

Set of brass clam dishes
Today I decided to head on over to my favorite antique store walking distance from my house...dangerous I know!  I just went to be inspired not to drain my wallet, so nothing came home with me, but here are some of my favorite finds of the day.

Bone Inlay little bowl with lid

Deer antlers

Cool Vintage desk lamp

Industrial floor lamp

Receipt or card holder ( that's what I would use it for)

Bamboo style brass nesting tables

Which one is your favorite? Mine were the brass clams!

Hope you have a restful weekend.

Salvation Army Original

I found this original oil painting at Salvation Army on one of their 50% off days.  This is my first original piece of art and I find the scene very soothing.  The cost for my first original.... 50 cents!
I love it against my paint in the kitchen (see picture). It is another piece toward my gallery wall in my kitchen. I talked about my gallery kitchen project here.  I am almost done and love how it is turning out. Pictures to come, promise!

Horns & Vacation

I just picked up this great vintage piece over at High Street Market. I love the wood backing and the green detailing with brass nail heads. I know just where it will go too! Pictures to come. If you haven't heard of Kelly's High Street Market Etsy shop you need to go right NOW! She is an interior designer with an amazing talent for picking out great vintage pieces. She showcases all of them with such beautiful photography.

Wanted to also let you guys know I will be signing off from the blog world for the next week. Matt and I are headed to sunny California for some Vitamin D and R&R. I will be excited to catch up on all your posts when I get home!

March 8, 2011

Spotted this little guy in GoodWill. My favorite store lately. Sorry for the bad photo, I quickly took it with my phone. Very Mid Century. Reminds me of an accessory you would find on Red's desk in Mad Men.

A New Addition

Can you spot the little bench under the table? Remember when I talked about the fabrics I scored at GoodWill? I had just the project in mind. A small bench I purchased months ago for under 5 bucks. It was in bad shape so I had to sand the wood down and put a fresh coat of stain on it.

*****************************************************

Hear is the step by step

First I removed the top of the bench

Second, I removed the old fabric with a screw driver and added new batting to the frame.

Then I wrapped the new fabric, pulling it carefully so it laid smooth. Then stapled it around the edges.

And Viola! A new bench for under 5 bucks.

Heather
