Weekend DIY

It has been quite awhile since I have gotten the time to get knee deep in a project, but I made some time this weekend.  I picked up this dresser at Goodwill and gave it a face lift. It's amazing what a little elbow grease and paint will do!  I'm not keeping it.  I am selling it to make some extra cash.  I will get more into that later this week.  Until it finds a home it is sitting pretty in the guest room.

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend!

Over at Lovely Happenings

Like this tank?  I was asked to participate in a fun post over at Lovely Happenings using this tank to create a full outfit around it.  Megan asked other bloggers to do the same and you can see all the fun outfits that incorporate this tank.  It's so fun to see what the other ladies came up with!  Thanks Megan for involving me in this fun post!

Hope you all had a great weekend!  It was a beautiful Fall weekend in Oregon.  The leaves were falling, and the air was crisp.  Fall is my favorite season to run.  I have been running for two years now and it is the ONLY thing that keeps me... well, me.

I run because I crave it.
I run because it's where I collect my thoughts.
I run because I meet God there.
I run because I'm competitive
I run because I have more to give after.
I run because it's my quite time.
I run because it has and does teach me about myself.
I run because it gives me a great ass.
I run because it releases more than crying.
I run because people underestimate my strength.
I run because I have underestimated my strength.
I run because it's my escape.

Is there an activity that you cherish?

Decision Made

After months of searching for the perfect fabric to re-cover the valance in my kitchen, I finally settled with one!  I don't know if I am more excited about the fabric or being done looking for one?!  I decided on a Robert Allen fabric called Pyramid in Camel. In the picture above, it is the geometric one in the middle.  It isn't a bold, bright print or anything.  Actually pretty simple.  I was looking for a more modern fabric, no print. Something that can change/ grow with me.  I find that I get tired of prints quickly, always going back to stripes, herringbone, tweed ect.

Here is a close up of the fabric used for a pillow.  Reminds me of a fabric Thomas O'Brien or Nate Berkus would use.  The picture below is of my current valance.  It is fine and in good condition, but I have had it for 5 years and am seriously tired of the print.  It actually isn't "me" at all.  I decided to take the plunge and just do it.  I am dropping it off at the upholsterer this week, but before I do, I wanted your opinion.  Do you think I should do a piping around it or same fabric for piping?  My current valance used the same fabric for the piping.  I was thinking it might be nice to outline the new fabric with?

Any suggestions?

Etsy Artist - Michelle Morin

While browsing on Etsy, I ran across an artist by the name of Michelle Morin.  Her Etsy shop is named United Thread.  Being influence by her love of nature, Michelle creates incredible one of a kind pieces.  I love the scheme of colors she uses and how the pieces are timeless and playful.

Stella & Dot Give Away

October is Breast Cancer awareness month.  I think every month we are all aware of how cancer has devastated many families.  I know first hand friends.  For the month of October, Stella & Dot is selling the above Tribute bracelet with 20% of the proceeds going towards research.  I just got my bracelet in the mail and it is really cute! Rose gold with faceted crystals.  It is selling for $36.

Tribute bracelet with other Stella & Dot bracelets

My goal is to sell 50 for the month of October and I need your help only being half way.
I thought I would make it even more enticing than just having one adorable bracelet. How? Well when you purchase the bracelet, I will put your name in a drawing for a $50 dollar Stella & Dot credit to pick out whatever you desire!!!!!  The odds are, I will probably only get 5 to 10 of you interested so the odds are on your side!  With half the Stella & Dot line being under $50, you will be sure to find something to add to your wardrobe.  I will reveal the winner November 1st!
You can support such an important cause while looking fashionable ladies!  To purchase the Tribute bracelet which will automatically put you in the drawing just leave me a comment or email me and I will put your order in! Then, make sure to check out the Stella & Dot website to take a look at some of their other items, because they could be yours on November 1st!

Here is a picture of my Mom & I.  My mom taught me to never use the word "hate."  But I use it often when speaking of cancer.

You will never be forgotten Mom.  Love always....

My Birthday Wish

Hello ladies, sorry for the lack of posts. Our server went down over the weekend and it left me postless.  If you read only for design, this post might be a bit wordy. Sorry in advance.

This week I will turn one year older.  I’m not saying that to rise birthday wishes from you, but to share how sometimes it takes a turning point in life to get you thinking.  I have been thinking for quite awhile now about how we are consumed by one beautiful picture after the next via, pinterest, magazines, blogs ect.  We gaze at images looking for impact, ideas, and what next object we “need.”  I am so guilty of this, finding myself in stores on a weekly basis being goodwill or a department store looking for the next purchase that would make my home more complete.  Is it that I am looking for an object to make my home more complete or me more complete? Scary question, I know!

As I dug a bit deeper I found that I might have a bit of a problem “just being.”  I am always trying.   Well this year instead of trying so hard I am going to “just be” more.  I am going to stop comparing and be more content with what I do have. I am going to stop trying to acquire as much and admire more. Goals and priorities are important, but it can be so easy to get caught up in what you wish you had, that you lose appreciation for what you already have. Instead of buying nick knacks at Goodwill, that can add up, I am going to save for that one special item that I want to stare at for many years to come. Who knows, all those two buck finds at Goodwill could add up to a trip to Venice?
Next year as I turn another year older, I hope these thoughts become lessons and I am not just another year older, but wiser. Hope I didn’t completely bore you guys with my ramblings.

The Color Orange

Do you recognize this living room?  It's the living room set in the movie "It's Complicated."  One of my all time favorite, belly laughing, feel good movies.  I also caught myself eyeing the decor in the movie as well.
This room screams Fall to me.  I love how they used pops of orange.  I would love to get my hands on the rusty orange pillows on the couch!
Today I am guest blogging over at Josh&Ashley's World about incorporating orange in design.
Josh & Ashley are personal friends of mine with an adorable blog.  Ashley is an amazing cook with archives of yummy recipes to be made.  Check out my post on orange and write down a yummy recipe or two!
P.S. If you dare, jot down Ashley's Blackberry Cobbler recipe! Five ingredients and it is so amazing!

A New Additon

I wanted to show you my newest accessory for the casa.  I purchased this horse shelf from Rene's Etsy shop. When I saw it, I fell in love.  I love the rustic wood element and how it seems to compliment the abstract art. I put a vase I already owned from West Elm on top, but think the scale is off.  I might have to get one a bit larger.  What do you think about the vase, too small?

If you are looking for a one of a kind find, make sure to check out Rene's Etsy shop

Pink Wallpaper
Shannon did it again over at Pink Wallpaper.  This photo caught my eye.  I love the white walls, the fabric is perfect and that oil painting with the aqua phone....Perfection in my eyes.
Have a great day!

If the Shade Fits and Guest Blogging

Like I promised here is a picture of my new black lampshade. I didn't get to all the clean laundry on the bed so I took a close up of the guest room side table.  Sorry for the not so impressive photo, but by the time I got home last night it was dark.  Not the best light but you get the idea.  I like how the shade seems to ground the vignette.

I am guest blogging for Casey over at Loft & Cottage today while she is exploring the streets of Italy!  I am talking about some of my  Fall wardrobe favorites.  If you haven't checked out Loft & Cottage get ready to spend some time exploring some serious design inspiration!
