New Year...New Adventures!

I am pumped for 2012!  This is going to be quite a year for our family.  Here are just a few changes and events going on in our little world.

 1.  We are becoming parents! ( this one is a biggy)
 2.  We are going to Ethiopia once TWICE this year
 3.  Matt will be starting the police academy this month.

* Oh, I can't forget to mention I get to decorate a nursery for our little man!

Wishing all of you a healthy and happy New Year! I have a feeling 2012 will be the best yet!

Thank You Sara

Anthropologie

My friend Sara gave me the cutest Christmas present and I had to share it with your guys.  A linen box filled with tiny fabric push pins.  Sometimes something so little can brighten up your day.  A box of pretties.  I told myself I can't use them until I de-clutter my pin board and desk area.  That will hopefully get me motivated.

Jewels

Don't these just tickle your fancy?! Three of my favorite Stella & Dot Bangles.  Just an idea if you have any Christmas cash burning a whole in your pocket.

Stamps

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.  Our Holiday was very relaxing, sharing it with friends and family and a lot of down time.  It is so crazy to think next Christmas we will have a little one to enjoy Christmas with!  We feel so blessed.
For Christmas, I received a letter from a friend and she used vintage postage on the package (picture above.) I enjoyed this extra touch and thought about this cute package all week.  It got me thinking about stamps.  They are so unique and nostalgic.  After finding these next images, I now collect stamps. I just couldn't help myself ladies.

Holli Zollinger

Anyone decorating a nursery? I am just starting to brainstorm some ideas for Collin's room.  I ran across Holli Zollinger's fabric line.  Even if you aren't designing for a little person in mind, you will want to check out these whimsical fabrics.  Click on the fabric to view her line.

Sprinkles of Cheer

This Christmas we didn't decorate as much as past years due to being super busy. It has been hectic around the Matias household trying to meet dead lines for our home study.  So decorations are just sprinkled around the house instead of showered.  I thought I would share some pictures anyway.

My DIY Wreath

Between getting our FBI background checks and a dozen vaccines for the adoption, I found time to make this wreath over the weekend.  I found all the sticks in my neighborhood, luckily some with live moss! The wreath will live year around in our backyard. This was a simple DIY that was totally free! Can't beat that.

Happy Monday!

Christmas Abode

This is Christmas done right friends! Look at that black velvet bow on the front door. And not one but three gorgeous wreaths!  Just wait til' you see how they stuck Christmas cards in their sunburst mirror. Perfection in my eyes. Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

White Cheddar Potato Leek Soup

I was able to leave work early today, so I decided to put on a pot of soup.  I have to say, this might be one of the best soup recipes I have come across.  Here is how to whip it up....

Ingredients

3 Tbsp butter
2 cups chopped leeks (white part only)
2 lbs of potatoes quartered
1 qt. broth
8 oz of shredded white cheddar
5 tbsp sour cream
salt, pepper, and cayenne

Directions

In pot, melt butter over medium. Add leeks 2 min. Add potatoes for 5 min. Add broth and bring to a boil.  simmer until fork-tender, 15 min approx.  Remove 3/4 the potatoes. Add the potatoes to blender with 1 cup water and puree.  Add back to rest of soup and add cheese and 3 tbsp sour cream.  Garnish soup with a dab of sour cream and cayenne.
Note: I added cracked pepper and salt to add a bit more flava!

Holiday DIY

via

Ran across this DIY over at one of my favorite blogs and wanted to share it with you.  Talk about a cheap, fun, easy and beautiful way to add a bit of natural whimsy for the holidays. I plan of making one this weekend.  I went on a walk tonight and gathered some sticks with moss on them! Can't wait. I won't forget to share pictures.

Bedroom Installation Part 2 - Accessorizing

I promised I would share pictures of my bedroom nook after I added some finishing touches.  I managed to throw it together this weekend.  After all I didn't buy anything new.  Isn't fun to go shopping in your own home?!  So again if you didn't catch this post, here is the before picture of the new chair and side table.

Before Accessorizing -

After Accessorizing -

Here it is after a I added some of my favorite things.

Here is the breakdown of the accessories...

Small gilded frame - Vintage shop for 1.99.
Sunburst post card from Italy that Mom sent me while vacationing - free but special.
Wood frame with family picture - Goodwill, 99 cents
Blue and white porcelain bowl - 3 for a dollar at Goodwill
Tea light holder - 3 bucks at Cost Plus years ago
Silver Paul Revere bowl - Goodwill, a dollar and change.
Begonia Plant - 10 dollars ( I have to have a living plant in every room.)
Two framed photos leaning on floor - Pulled from other rooms. One is framed remnant fabric and the other is a photo of my mother.
All in all, this was one cheap make over.  Now on to crossing more projects off my list ;)

Off the Wall

I have always admired a collected, textured and layered look.  So it was no surprise that I liked the idea of art leaning on the floor.  Have you noticed images with leaning floor art?  Maybe it's been on my mind because in our bedroom reading nook, I have some frames on the floor waiting to be hung and I am actually liking them on the floor. I know this isn't practical for many busy, kid and animal filled households, but our bedroom will be the only room we will still have to ourselves after the babe arrives... who am I kidding ;)
Here is a line up of some inspiring images with leaning floor art.
