I have always been drawn to the look of small object's above bed's.  As you know I like to play with scale in design and going big is not always the answer.  Using a small object on a large wall can make a big impact. Using a small object above a bed creates a light feeling and also brings the eye up instead of a heavy piece of art possibly weighing the room down.  I like the simplicity of this idea.

This last picture is an older picture of our bedroom.  Sorry it is so grainy but I wanted to point out the small little brass plate above our bed.  Not the same effect of the professional design photo's but I do like it.
What do you think about this look?  Do you like the idea of using small scale to create an impact?

Gregory Mellor

Gregory Mellor has my heart when it comes to design.  I have talked about the importance of scale and texture as design elements before and he is the master of both.  You have probably seen the above picture floating around the web. Here are a few more examples of Gregory's design. Pay attention to how he incorporates scale, texture, mixing of finishes and warm colors to make an overall "collected over time" look.

He is one designer I would hand the keys of my home over to without any hesitation.

* All photos were found on Gregory Mellor's personal site linked above.

I can't forget to mention that I will show you what I did with this diamond in the rough on Monday.  She is primed, painted and staged!

Classically Modern & A Winner!

Classic(adj.): Of the highest quality. Serving as a standard, model or guide.
Modern (adj.): Simplification, clean, contemporary form.

I am a classic girl by heart. I love Audry Hepburn, tweed, stripes, orchids, To Kill A Mockingbird and pencil skirts. Over the years a bit of Modernism has seeped into my blood appreciating metals, bold patterns and uncluttered spaces. Through design blogs, magazines, pinterest and trial and error, I have been able to hone in on my personal design style. Even thought I appreciate many other styles of design I go back to a classically modern feel.  It's what feels right to me.  Here are some amazing spaces that fit the bill for Classically Modern design.

On My Mind

Pinned Image

My mind has been all over the place lately.  Thoughts of a nursery, the launch of Stella & Dot's Spring line, projects going on around the house and restoring a few pieces of furniture....yeesh!  My mind needs to get organized. If I don't stop to write down inspiration and ideas it is gone in a blink.  Here are a few images that are inspiring me.

Off the Wall

I have always admired a collected, textured and layered look.  So it was no surprise that I liked the idea of art leaning on the floor.  Have you noticed images with leaning floor art?  Maybe it's been on my mind because in our bedroom reading nook, I have some frames on the floor waiting to be hung and I am actually liking them on the floor. I know this isn't practical for many busy, kid and animal filled households, but our bedroom will be the only room we will still have to ourselves after the babe arrives... who am I kidding ;)
Here is a line up of some inspiring images with leaning floor art.
