I am excited to start the week of "Fall Fun" with Casey from Loft & Cottage.  Casey continues to inspire me with her style and DIY's.  If you haven't checked out Loft & Cottage, make sure to explore.  But first, let's get ready for Fall!

I'm Casey from Loft & Cottage, and I'm very excited to be here pitching in for Heather while she's off on vacation. Enjoy every minute, Heather, and thanks so much for having me!

Since the weather has turned dramatically cooler here in New England, I've been thinking maybe it's time to tuck away the seashells and break out the bare branches and nuts for some fall-inspired design. See, seasonal decorating to me is all about nature. And the trick is to make your natural decor sophisticated and interesting, instead of expected and been-done-forever, by taking a step away from the typical. I'll try to show you what I mean.

I think a lot about front-of-the-home decor this time of year. It's welcoming, and it signals to world passing by that your house is loved. They could have chosen mums and pumpkins here but instead went with a pair of twig-like wreaths suspended on cranberry ribbon and two simple urns filled with deep plum-colored foliage and tall grasses. Good choices!

Even semi-tropical plants, if they've got fall color, can look great in terra cotta pots gathered near your entry. Side note: how cool is the barn door? I'm obsessed.

I'm not sure how many people are going to have room in their home for a tree on a table, with root ball wrapped in burlap and all, but if you did, wow. It's certainly says autumn, and it's totally unexpected.

If you're short on space, a few branches of gold and persimmon leaves in a tall clear vase are simple, elegant, perfect. And if you must have pumpkins, and I admit fall is not complete without them, I like displaying them under glass to give them a little more importance in a room.

Or go for simple and stunning with white pumpkins, which look so amazing here with all-white dinnerware!

I'm so inspired now for autumn decorating, with whatever natural elements are close at hand. Or I may just have to go in search of a little burlap-wrapped tree I can stick on top of a table...

  3. I want a burlap wrapped tree too because of this picture -- and wouldn't mind a little pedestal table in the entry either. I have no idea how one would water it? I guess through the burlap and put it on a terra cotta tray? Also, the black canna is just pure awesomeness. That looks like a Martha pic, if I ever saw one.
