Comfort Food

{Chicken & Dumplings}

After a long week at work, this was the perfect meal for a Friday night. This recipe is so easy and full of flavor. A comfort food classic! I added carrots to the recipe to get another veggie in my husband, and instead of making my own chicken stock, I just used organic chicken broth.

1 lb chicken breasts
2 quarts chicken broth
2 cups bisquick
2/3 cups milk
2 tbsp butter
4 stalks celery
2 carrots
Bring chicken broth to a boil in a stock pot.

Meanwhile, mix together the bisquick and milk until soft dough forms. When broth comes to a boil, drop spoonfuls of dough into the chicken broth. Simmer over low heat, covered, for 10 mins, then uncovered for 10 mins.

Meanwhile, dice 2-4 stalks of celery until you have approximately 1/2 – 1 cup of diced celery. Cut or shred chicken into bit sized pieces. Saute celery in 2 tbsp of butter for a couple of mins. Add in chicken & season well with salt and pepper. Stir to combine. Add the chicken and celery to the soup broth and dumplings.

Serves 4 with left overs for lunch! Easy Breezy guys.

Heather

Brass Cuties

Vintage Zen

I have been seeing  lots of brass figurines at the local antique stores. I am enamored by them. They are eclectic, brass, vintage, modern all wrapped into one. A perfect little accessory that I could see sitting on a stack of books.

I'm Liking...

Jayson Home & Garden

Ava Clogs - Land's End Canvas

Ginkgo Sage - Jay Yang Fabric

Huge Brass Deer Statue

Clare Vivier Clutch

Andy Warhol's - Rorschach

Hope you all had a great Easter weekend. It was our 5 year anniversary so we had a fun, yet relaxing weekend filled with good food, good friends, and good naps!
These items have been on my radar. I surely can't afford the Jayson's chair, but I sure do love how the arms are upholstered. I think it makes it modern yet soft.
I also found the massive deer statue while browsing etsy. It is over 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Wouldn't it look cool living in front of a fireplace?
You were probably stumped seeing the ink blot by Andy Warhol, but I think it is really cool abstract art. I can see it living in a thin gold frame with a picture light on top. I am really loving black and white modern abstract art right now.

Happy Monday,
Heather

Zucchini Bacon Lasagna & A Perfect Bench

I have always been super intimidated to make home made lasagna....until now!  Here is a picture of my most prized recipe thus far in life....

Might not look as good as I'm making it out to be but it is! Main ingredients are as follows; zucchini, bacon, mozzarella, bechamel sauce! What could get better than that. Click here for the recipe.

I would suggest making a double batch so you can throw one in the freezer. It will save you the hassle of making it the next time you crave it.

I also have been craving this bench. To me, this is perfection!

Kelly, over at High Street Market did it again with a fabulous vintage find. My favorite is the fabric by Kelly Wearstler. I have been eyeing the print, Fern Tree for awhile now.  I think it would look great on my valance that I have to reupholster. Just if I could only fine some remnants because at over 100 bucks a yard it is about 80 % out of my budget!

Let me know if you try the lasagna. I would love to hear your thoughts!

Heather

A Little of This & A Little of That

Hope you all had a great weekend! I have been MIA for a few days because I had a list of to-do's.  But I'm back and wanted to share a bit of random happenings in the Matias household from this past weekend.

1. I wanted to share with you a great GoodWill find.

I only paid 2 bucks for this cafe chair! Over at Crate&Barrel, it's twin is going for a whole lot more. I love the caining seat and the high gloss black paint.  Its new home is in our guest bathroom with white towels stacked on top.

2.  Our English Bulldog, Nixon desperately needed a bath! This is not an easy task. She is 70 lbs of dead weight!

This is her after her bath. Just look how excited she looks, haaahha.

3. Last but not least, my most exciting part of the weekend was....drum roll please! We got a new dining table! Of course I found it on Craigslist for a steal.  The lady didn't know she was getting rid of an antique. Oh well for her, it's mine now (can you hear my deviant laugh?)
I have been revamping our kitchen for awhile now, starting with painting it a few months back. I am also adding a gallery wall that isn't quite done yet.  Here are two sneak peak pics on the kitchen transformation.

Have a great week everyone!

Before

After
I was paying bills at my desk today and couldn't take the clutter in my desk drawer any more! After a trip to the Container Store and choosing some of my favorite bowls, I feel better. It's the little things in life.

Meet & Greet - Estate Eclectic

Meet Betsy from Estate Eclectic! Isn't she so adorable?! Not only is she cute but she has a magic talent! Cute vintage finds are drawn to her! Well, it seems that way at least.  I know with "Meet & Greet" I usually show you where the blogger blogs, but she informed me they are doing a complete remodel. But trust me when I say, I'm sure her future desk will be super chic with a gorgeous ceramic lamp and beautiful brass accessories. Can you see it, I can.
The best thing about her talent is that she shares it with all of us! She has an Estate Eclectic etsy shop that allows you to own these little vintage beauties.
Recently she just advertised a special vintage line geared for babies and kids.  I thought this was a brilliant idea.  I get tired of buying presents from kids stores because they are so generic. Finally kids can have chic rooms too thanks to Betsy's new line.  Here is just a peak at many kids finds she has in her shop.

Betsy often features her items on her blog. Lately a few have caught my eye...

Japanese Hand painted Ceramic Bowl

Vintage Ceramic Dish

Vintage Magazine Caddy

Independence Ironstone Place setting (4)

Vintage Brass Acorn Dish

Total Eye Candy!!!

****************************

If you guys are thinking that you love the items but wouldn't know exactly how to incorporate them into your home, don't worry! Betsy has that covered. In her posts, she will feature a new item, then show how it could be used in interior design. Example....
Vintage Bird Cage

House Beautiful

Elle Decor

Country Living

How cute is that bird cage! I hope you enjoyed getting to know Betsy and her etsy shop. All her items make such unique and special gifts. One of a kind!
