I'm excited!

I am really excited to share this post for some reason! Maybe its because I am excited about what Ikea is doing lately. Well let me start the story here....

When we moved into our home we purchased a really nice overstuffed fabric chair from Ethan Allen. We even splurged on the matching ottoman! Needless to say it was a very special piece of furniture with a BIG price tag. After two cats and an English Bulldog using the chair when we weren't home, I started to get nervous of the fabric getting dirty and snagged from claws. I was constantly yelling "NO" to my animals and sometimes my husband! Then it hit me...I DON"T WANT TO LIVE LIKE THIS! I want all of us to be comfortable in our home. It is not a stage home, its the home we live in.
I decided to move my swanky chair to our bedroom and went on a mission to find a cheap, cute, indestructible chair to replace it.
Drum Roll Please.......
(Ektorp slip cover chair from Ikea)

I picked up one of these chairs for 249.oo! One sixth of the price of the "Off limits chair." It comes in an assortment of different fabric covers 100 bucks each. They just had a sale where the slip covers were 29 dollars! For that price I don't care if it becomes the dogs bed. It is also comfortable. They also have a couch and lounge chair in EKtorp.

( I got my chair in this cool grey color)

(One of my favorite blogs...mysweetsavannah, has the L shaped couch)

They even look cuter in person. Needless to say I am happy about my purchase and am even happier when I see my family using our cozy home :)

Table Scape's

My husband makes fun of me because if we have an empty space on pretty much any surface I start designing a "feel" in my head of what things I can fill it up with. I love this idea because you usually...

  1. Don't need to spend a lot of money, or any at all
  2. Use precious objects collected or gifted
  3. An easy way to change the feel of a room (seasonal)

  4. Can grow as you grow(like switching pictures out of frames ect.)

Here are some photos I have collected of cool table scape's that have inspired me in my own home...

Don't be afraid to use the back wall to hang things such as mirrors, pictures, ect. to add to the whole look. And don't forget to look down. Baskets, vases and a random stack of books look good on the floor and add storage.
Have fun creating....

Fiddle Leaf Fig

I have been looking for a great indoor year around tree and have been noticing one in particular in tons of magazines and photos. It is called the Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree. I did some research and found out that....

1.They require medium light
2.They do not need a lot of water (over watering will lead to yellow and brown leaves)

3. They are slow growing

I love the large leaves and the skinny trunk. The leaves are a beautiful deep green with very visual veins. It is not over stuffy like a big boxwood and not too casual like an ordinary palm tree. For a traditional yet casual feel this tree could be your best fit!

Here is a picture of where I put my new Fig Tree. I love the way it fills the corner of the room behind my chair!
