Thanks so much to Heather for inviting me to be a guest today!  I am Rene from the blog Cottage and Vine.  Heather's blog is one of favorites because I love her timeless style with a modern twist.  By the way, I am the lucky winner of her black & white abstract masterpiece and I adore it!
Heather invited me here to talk about fall related decor.  While I don't exactly have a green thumb, I do love to piddle around in the garden.  When the cooler fall & winter months roll around I still have that urge to garden.  Plants add so much to a home and I like to have touches of green around to remind me that spring will return again some day.

Every fall I stock up on bulbs and plant a few every 2-3 weeks.  This way I have something blooming at all times throughout the winter months.  I just love this image with the paperwhites tucked in among the books.  I imagine those spots of green in the background are another of my favorites, wheat grass.  Wheat grass is super easy to grow.  Even if you think your thumb is brown, trust me, you can successfully grow wheat grass.

Another favorite is succulents.  Happy little plants that handle a fair amount of neglect = perfect!  Here is an idea, if you don't have luck with orchids, stick an artificial orchid into a pot of succulents.  No one will ever have to know.

Last but not least are fiddlehead figs.  Their green leaves would brighten any room on even the darkest days of winter.

Those are some of my fall decorating tips.  Thanks again for having me over today Heather!

I love those Daffodils in the silver bowl, beautiful!  The idea of planting bulbs every few weeks to always have something in bloom is a tip I will try this season.

  7. Oh, yes, I love orchids but cannot seem to keep them alive. And paperwhites are great this time of year!

  9. Love all of these ideas Rene. And...they are the hardy version of indoor plants. Somebody mentioned keeping orchid alive. Just place about 3 ice cubes at the base once a week...that is all the care they need.
