Kitchen Progress Report

Before

In Progress

My Inspiration

Andy & Kate Spades Home - via Selby

I really fell in love with the warmth of this room. I also love the eclectic gallery of art that goes all the way to the ceiling!
I spend most of my time in the kitchen so this project has been really important to me.  I wanted my kitchen to feel like an extension of my home, not a cold, untextured space that many kitchens fall into.  I added natural linen parson chairs ( two more on the way) and bamboo shades to add texture. The previous roman shades were nice, but it felt country to me. I also switched out the table for a Duncan Phyfe I found on Craigslist for 100 bucks! Again the white barn table was screaming country. I painted the walls a deep gray-green. A color you wouldn't normally see in a kitchen, but I was going for unexpected.
The chandelier has been a sore subject.  I think it is ok, but awhile back I purchased my dream fixture by Thomas O'Brien. It came in the mail and it was just not the right scale. I was crushed, but at almost 400 bucks I decided I didn't want to settle. I am still on the lookout.
I  still have the the valance above my sink that I would like to get reupholstered.  I picked up this fabric liking the salmon color with a vine of textured linen woven in. I'm just not sold yet. What do you think?

I am really liking the gallery wall in the kitchen. It has become a conversation started at dinner parties. I found frames and some prints at GoodWill, making it a really inexpensive project. I am filling in the above area slowly but surely.

Last but not least, I would love to get an old Persian runner to go from one end of my cabinets to the stove! The problem is I have a very nice sisal rug that is in good shape. I don't neeeeeed it. Ho hummmm.

So that is my kitchen progress report. I would love any suggestions from you!

P.S.  In the summer I bring my herb garden inside. I love when a breeze comes through I smell fresh basil and mint!

XO,
Heather

  3. Wow, this was inspiring! You kitchen looks just lovely!!! The art gallery- idea I love! As you know I´m working on something quite the same in my own kitchen:)!
The wall color turned out great and I love the bamboo shades- makes the area so much more 'airy'. The wingback chair in the first photo is adorable- will you keep it?'
I think it´s hard to give you any advice on the new fabric...I´m, not sure what I think of it just yet. Once put in place it might just look all fab!
I´m sure the final result will be just brilliuant and I can´t wait to see more of this!!! You will keep us updated throughout the process right:)!?

  4. Heather, I think it looks fantastic. It all goes together seamlessly. If I had to pick a favorite part it would be the pictures but I have to say that I love the fabric too!

Thank you for your kind words on my blog,
    Karyn

  5. Love the art going all the way to the ceiling! It will be fun to watch it all come together. Need/want, is there a difference? A Persian runner would look great.

  6. Yay, yay, yay! It's coming along so nicely, Heather. The color on the wall is so great, and the eclectic look of the frames and art is perfect. I have to tell you that I really like your chandelier -- every space needs a little black to ground things. And one more thing, I love those shelves with your dishes displayed on them. Keep going, because what you are doing is good stuff.

  7. The paint color really warms up the area as do the bamboo shades. I like where you are going with everything!
