I have always been drawn to the look of small object's above bed's.  As you know I like to play with scale in design and going big is not always the answer.  Using a small object on a large wall can make a big impact. Using a small object above a bed creates a light feeling and also brings the eye up instead of a heavy piece of art possibly weighing the room down.  I like the simplicity of this idea.

This last picture is an older picture of our bedroom.  Sorry it is so grainy but I wanted to point out the small little brass plate above our bed.  Not the same effect of the professional design photo's but I do like it.
What do you think about this look?  Do you like the idea of using small scale to create an impact?

Be Well,
Heather

  1. Heather, all of these bedrooms are gorgeous! I love your old bedroom too - great colors and elements. Thanks so much for your comment - working on the guest post right now and will e-mail it to you tonight. Thanks! :)

  2. Yay! I knew there was a reason that I put a dinky little plate above our massive king bed. David thought it was too small, but I left it cause I liked it. (love how wives win out on this stuff:) I didn't have a good reason to give at the time, but now I do! Thanks! :)

ps. I do love your bedroom. Shades of grey and blue? My favorite right now.

  3. Huh, I've never given much thought to this, but now that you point it out, it only makes sense that the bed, not the art above has the most visual presence. I also have to say that living in the Bay Area, it would be scary to have huge piece of art above the bed -- particularly one with glass!

I think your little plate looks perfect. As always, I adore your bedroom!
